Getting To Know Darla M. Thieler

Hi - I'm Darla. I am the Founder and Leader for Remnant Ministries. I sing, play keyboards, write music and dramas for the group, and speak at concerts. I am the only remaining original member. Remnant began on March 9, 1982 (originally named "The Ambassadors" - see our History Page). I was born on June 20th in Latrobe, PA. My husband, George & I, have been married since 1987! We have one son, Joshua Michael, who is a department manager at Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. Josh has also completed some credits at Geneva College. He is great with people and wants to be a Youth Pastor. We have two dogs - Amber Rose (toy poodle), and Aurelius (lab/boxer). We also have a flock of parakeets - we had two and adopted two, they are multiplying. We have seven parakeets - Sapphire & Alice, Sunshine, our first two miracle babies - Grace and Phoenix, and our newest babies, Rose and Rambo. My Mom, Grace, lives in Greensburg. I also have a brother, Terry, and his wife Sue, and their daughter, Elise, who live in California; and a sister, Rachele, and her husband, Don, who live in New York. I have two other neices - Carrie Riddle and her husband Adam who live in Virginia with my two grandnieces Kiera & Alyssa, and Becky Howard, who lives in Colorado and is working on her doctorate in Psychology. I am the organist at Calvin United Presbyterian Church in Scottdale, PA. My membership is at the First Baptist Church in Greensburg. What I like best about both of these churches is the way they support and encourage Remnant. I have an Associate Degree in Office Technology - Administration, and I also have my lay speaking certification. I enjoy teaching part time as an online college instructor, teaching computer and microsoft applications. My first love is the ministry that God has called my husband and I to do. In my spare time at home (lots of laughs there), I enjoy writing music for Remnant, and I have begun working on new projects - a Christian inspirational romance suspense novel, and a Christian devotional. My goals include learning to manage my time better! My favorite thing about being in Remnant is the ministry - I have such a passion and desire to share God's Word, and tell others (and show them by how I live my life) about His love. I love music, too - I like leading worship for traditional, blended and contemporary services. My hobbies and interests include cooking, writing poetry/music, needlepoint/cross stitch, scrapbooking, walking my dogs, reading, and I love spending time relaxing with my family, especially at the beach! I collect unicorns, Winnie The Pooh everything, snowmen - especially unique ones, and stuffed animals that look like real animals. I am a child at heart! I like to watch movies - my favorite movies are "The Sound Of Music", "Brigadoon", and "It's A Wonderful Life". I also love theatre, and occasionally I will take a role in a local show. My favorite music groups include White Heart, Out Of The Grey, Little Big Town, Rascal Flats, Styx, Journey, and Heart. Please pray that my passion for God stays alive! In His love - Darla

Personal Testimony

"I was 13 years old when I went to youth camp to get away from Mom & Dad. While I was there, I heard my first Christian Contemporary Music group. I had never heard of such a thing! During their concert, they talked about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I went forward for the altar call, and accepted Jesus as my personal Savior and Lord. I knew at that moment He wanted me to use my life in a Contemporary Christian Music group to tell others about Him. Through His grace and mercy, and by His strength, power and might, REMNANT began two years later."
